Last year (2008), ASME B31.12 "Hydrogen Piping and Pipelines" was released. Prior to this pipe spec, ASME B31.3 was generally the go-by for hydrogen piping systems in the US.
The purpose of this thread is to identify differences between B31.3 and B31.12 to help bring folks like myself up to speed on B31.12. If your job is anything like mine, you don't have time to sit down and spend days going through the spec - so having a discussion around the differences, especially in the area of design and test would be extremely helpful.
There's a good overview of the basic conceptual differences posted here:
This goes over a few very high level features of the code as a starting point for anyone not familiar with the development of this code.
It might be easiest to point out just one or two differences, referencing paragraphs in the codes. Trying to enumerate all the differences at once will be an eye-lid slammer. Also, any references to internet sites that discuss differences would be appreciated.
