Difference between AISI and NASPEC?

What is the difference between AISI and NASPEC? I need to find a relevant code to design some cold formed beam members. AISI S100 could apply but now I'm confused because I'm seeing NASPEC also exists, although I have a feeling these are one and the same thing....

The 2001 edition of the AISI's North American Specification for the Design of Cold-formed Steel Structural Members is NASEC or NAS-01, the 2007 and later editions are S-100. They are the same thing except NASPEC refers to an older version. The older NASPEC is known by a different designation for Canada (same book with two acronym/designation).

Prior to 2001, Canada had their own cold-formed steel design specification. The 2001 edition was the first merged edition and carried the NASPEC designation, perhaps to emphasize that fact. Later editions continue to carry the same title, but the NASPEC ID reference has been dropped in lieu of the now S100 designation. As the AISI Committee of Framing Standards has expanded their collection of standards it became necessary to get some better numbering systems for the various documents, hence the newer S100 designation. In Canada, it is still sometimes referred to as S136 (the ID for their previously separate specification). With the exception of a few country specific items in some appendices and the two countries using different resistance/safety factors, the requirements in the two countries (actually 3 as the specification is also used in Mexico) are the same.
The new S100 2016 edition is due out later this year.
