looking at some drawings and there are a bunch of old steel on here. There is 10WF21 and 10WF21-S listed and I was wondering what the difference was. Any ideas?
Could the "S" stand for silicon steel, which would have a higher yield strength than ordinary carbon steel? I'm currently working on a project - built 60+ years ago - that uses this designation.
This was built about 60 years ago so the "S" could mean any number of things. I just don't know what those are. Silicon steel sounds like a good starting point. Will do a little research.
I have a Catalog - "Iron & Steel Beams, 1873 to 1952", compiled by AISC and published in 1953. The letters preceding the date designate the company that issued the catalog, as follows:
B ------- Bethlehem Steel Company 1907 C ------- The Carnegie Steel Company, Limited 1893 to 1896 S -------- Bethlehem Steel Company, Beginning 1909 U S -------- United States Steel Company
........... and so on.....
For 10WF21, there is S43 - 1933 and S47 - 1934
