hi all,

diesel is transfered from one tank(6.5m3) to other day tank (1m3)
line size is 1.5" length of line is 60m approx. & static head between tanks is 12m. fluid is diesel, visosity is 3.1 cp & density - 850kg/m3 @50°C. need to calculate flow rate? but I have done calculation in excel/pipenet but there results are different(5.75m3/hr & 9.3m3/hr).just need to confirm/doubt how to confirm the flow rate is correct? pl. if any solution is there pl. let me know..I would appreciate if i get one..

Making an assumption on the pipe roughness (e=0.0001m), and using the Darcy-Weisbach equation, I get a flowrate of 9.2 m^3/hr.

Thanks for your response.
then this case filling rate will 6-7 min only for 1 m3 tank.
For your information Pipe ID is 34mm.

another doubt: How to calculate overflow line capacity if overflow size is 1"(EXISTING). how much flowrate we can expect from this line. BUT IT WAS INSTALLED incorrect position FROM TOP OF THE TANK. could you help in this regard.
whether Bernouli's eqn. is applicable here. if so pl. explain how can go about that....

Bernoulli's equation always applies:

[Δ]P/[ρ] + [Δ]z + hpump = hf, where hf is the head loss due to friction.

1. set in your equation [Δ]z = the correct position = hf.
2. guess a flow rate and calculate hf.
3. Repeat until [Δ]z = hf.

Be careful not to make a mistake between fmoody and ffanning in your Darcy equation:
