Howdy!

I am kind of stuck with this design. Any opinions?

I will pump 1-hexene from 1 mile away to a truck loading area. I am not sure:

1) A vapor recovery line back to tank,
2) A vapor recovery line to near flare,
3) An expansion tank temparoryly collecting vapor and blow away later, or anything else?

Vapor recovery designs can be driven by local regulations, that is where you should first look at to determine what options you might have and restrictions you might be facing.

John Zink also has a vapor collection system where the hydrocarbons are adsorbed on activated carbon and then stripped off under vacuum, I've seen those used at loading terminals where vapor recovery is mandated.

Because of the low pressures trucks are designed for, you are likely looking at a compressor I would imagine to return the vapors to the storage area with a reasonably sized return line. I can hear 'cha-ching' for a project cost estimate with a 1 mile vapor recovery header. Compare the cost of that option and the value of the recovered product with sending the vapors to a flare (if one exists) or a thermal oxidizer.
 
Hmm, you did say diesel didn't you? Not much vapor off diesel because of its low flash point so limited economic return in recovering the vapors. However, you might not have a choice given what environmental regulations are in your area.
 
We promise the client zero emission. Due to "cha-ching" concern, I will go with nearby ground flare. Thank you for your valuable input.
