I need to insulate a diesel generator exhaust line inside a building. What's a typical exhaust temperature for a 50kw diesel generator running at full load? I was planning to use about 600F.....

My Cummins temp at the turbo runs WELL over a 1000f under load. The temp drops of dramatically as you move downstream, however.

Exhaust Temperatures
NA Diesel: 900 to 1000F
TA Diesel: 1000 to 1100F

To insulate the exhaust:
1. Cheap/"down-n-dirty" -- Get a roll of heavy duty kitchen aluminum foil and fold/wrap the foil around the exhaust piping and fittings. You want about 4 to 6 layers. Secure with stainless steel tie wire. This will reduce exhaust system heat loss by at least 50% and it will make step # 2 last much longer.
2. Expensive (but looks great)-- Go to purchase the componants needed and install OVER the aluminum foil.
