Can somebody tell me why the upper plate on my die set does not move? It is a small 2 guidepost dieset. I want to make die blocks for it and stamp out parts. I know it is supposed to move up and down. But it wont. I dont see any bolts, valves, or anything.

They have been known to seize.

They have also been known to un-seize without warning. Keep your fingers out of the gap until you've got a spacer in there.

Squirt a little Kroil on the posts, wait a while, and give the upper platen a gentle tap with a brass hammer.

Maybe seized? Has it been in frequent use?

Are both plates sitting parallel?

[cheers]

It hasnt been used for a long time, i think. It is not even in the press yet but looks pretty new. I ordered Kroil. Thanks guys!

If that does not work, mount it in the press, at the bottom of the stroke, and cycle the press, brutal but effective.
