Dear All,

I wish to know what type of connection you would prefer in case of having tube X shaped diagonals connected to the built-up(2xUPE 140 [] section). UPE 140 profiles are connected with side plates to form column built-up section. The glitch here is, how to connect the diagonal braces to the built up column, in either principal axes of column the diagonal brace will connect only one of two profiles (UPE140). In case of attempting to connect it to the side plates, then I don't feel comfortable nor convinced with the connection stability, even if stress checks conforms.

Your comments and help will be appreciated,

Regards,

Sorry, here is the link.

Since I'm connecting the brace to one of the 2 profiles of built-up column sections, will it cause any discrepancy ? Or anyone of you have done anything like that in the past?

Can you add gusset plates in the corners to attach the diagonals to?

The columns on your sketch do not appear to correspond with your verbal description. Please show a cross section through a typical column.
