Detailing MultiBody parts 3

Well after many hours banging my head against the screen I'll leave my ego at the door and ask, I have an injection mold designed and the core and cavity along with inserts and slides are all one multi body part file. I am trying to make drawings of the different components placing more than one component per sheet. Of course as soon as I make a different component visible in my part file I lose the previous detail I created because it updates. I have had some luck with using the relative view on parts that have two sides I can choose from but I also have round components (pins) that I can't choose faces from to create a relative view. I'm wondering if I should save each component out as a seperate part file and attack it that way or if I'm missing something very easy and just overlooking it. I've also considered saving out different configurations but I think files will start to get quite large. Any help in this matter is greatly appreciated.

I am not familar with mold design. However, relative views would seem the best way to go. Here is a thread that discusses your problem with the round part: thread559-114430

Multibody parts should not replace the use of assemblies. A general rule to follow is that one part (multibody or not) should represent one part number in a Bill of Materials. A multibody part consists of multiple solid bodies that are not dynamic. If you need to represent dynamic motion among bodies, use an assembly. Tools such as Move Component, Dynamic Clearance, Mates, and Collision Detection are available only with assembly documents.

An injection mould is an assy & should be treated as such. I would (as you suggested) save each unique body out as a separate file, & then build a proper assy using those parts.

For future designs...definitely follow CBL's advice.

To save what you have without saving out/starting over, I would try this first:

Relative View should work for all the bodies that have at least 2 perpendicular faces.

As for a round part, add a "Delete Body" feature at the end of the Feature Tree in which you delete all of the other bodies in your model except the round one. Make a new configuration with the "Delete Body" feature unsuppressed (don't forget to make sure that the "Delete Body" feature is suppressed in all the other configurations). Now just insert a view of the model in the configuration with all the other bodies deleted except the round one. Repeat for other round bodies.

Thanks. I saved each component as it's own part and everything has gone much smoother.
 
Something thing to watch out for if you save all the bodies out as their own parts is any feature created using the hole wizard. You won't be able to use hole callouts anymore in you drawing since SW no longer sees it as a hole feature. This can really com into play with tapped holes. Depening on how you made the hole with or without a cosmetic thread will determine if the new savd body part file is showing you the major or minor hole diameter.
Also submit an enhancement request to be able to use planes with relative views, this problem comes up a lot.
