I'm not sure when this actually changed as we've just upgraded from NX6 to NX9.

There's now an option - "Convert to Independent View", for when you need to make changes to the detail view.

Unless I do that, there's very little in the way of settings available for editing the view.

So, what's the benefit of not using this option ? Or rather, what do I lose by converting the view ?

Details Views are now created so that they are 'associative' to the main view. An example might be that if the Detail View was of a Section View and if you changed the crosshatch pattern or paraameters it would be reflected in the Detail View as well. If you make it an 'Independent View' then if behaves like it did in the past where changes in things like crosshatching or other non-geometric in the parent view was not reflected in the Detail View.
