When I use the detail circle in a drawing, it anchors it's origin point outside of the drawing. This causes the zoom to fit window to only partially fill the screen.
I'm using SW 2004 and the origins are not coincident to the model. What i've noticed is that the detail circle is on the right part of the model and the model origin is on the left. The detail view keeps that same relatioship and enlarges it , therefore placing the detail origin outside the sheet. I've zoomed out and then highlighted all to see if there was anything else outside the sheet and theres only the detail origins. Is there anyway to anchor the circle without the origin?
I am also using SW2004-SP2.1 ... but I cannot reproduce your problem. Whether the origins are showing or not, the Zoom to fit ignores them & shows only the actual geometry or Sheet Border.
Under the View option, try selecting Hide all types & see what happens.

Well, I've dimensioned them and hid all types to no avail. Then I deleted the detailed parts and still cannot get the zoom to fit to fill the whole window.
Do any of the parts in the drawing view have an axis? If so check the length of the axis & if necessary drag the ends in to shorten it. I have found that an axis created in a part (in combination with a "stretched" plane), can cause the view of the part to react the way you describe for the drawing view.

It sounds like there is geometry of some kind outside of the drawing border. Are you sure there is not a point or tiny circle or line or ??? at the origin.
If you cannot find anything, create a zip file of the model parts & drawing & border &, if it's not too big, either post a link here (if you have access to a web site) or email it to me at the address in my profile.

OK, this is weird ... the following JPGs show the problem part (the side view) with everything showing (autosized planes, axes, origins, sketches, etc) and each is at Zoom to fit extent.
The view is on a B-size sheet ... no sheet format border involved.
Notice how the zoom to fit places the sheet. Something is causing it but I can't find a thing.

Any suggestions?

It is trying to fit the center (origin) of the circle.
I had the same problem up until SW2005, does not do it anymore.
Also when creating a sketch on the dwg, add empty view and sketch there.

ctopher ... Not so, take another look at the images. The centre & origin are always visible on the sheet. Nothing is outside of the sheet.
dickcors files are very small if you also want to examine them.

I see what you are saying ... but the arc is not there in a sketch or anything. Ask dickcor to send you the file & see for your self.
It doesn't happen when I reproduce a similar part on my machine.

Unfortunately not ... but I am hounding my bosses daily to go for the upgrade. Hopefully they will get fed up with listening to my gripes & upgrade SW ... then again they could get fed up with listening to my gripes & upgrade me. We'll see which comes first.
