Good Morning ,

A little background, I was looking at developing a procedure to so that I could test and qualify welders for the fill and cap portion of the joint (with backing) so that they would be able to weld sockets in all positions.
It was mentioned that I could machine a partial groove and weld the fill and cap to qualify my welders referencing the wps that I have.
My question is, can I do a transverse root and face bend test to qualify them for the above mentioned,
Thanks.

I have not seen that done except with side bends. On root bends, the weld would not be on the OD surface of the bend to evaluate.

I've done this test in the past, but it was radiographed.
Thanks CWEng
