Hi Guys,

I am just wondering if there is any design example/guidance/reference I could look at for the design of the grade beams which tie two isolated braced frame footings?

What I wanted to know is that:

Do I need to design this grade beam with some moment and shear capacities?

Any information would be appreciated.

If a hinge is placed in the center of the grade beam, (expansion material with the steel contiuous through the center of the beam), then no moment strength is required. Alternately, a rigid connection between the two foundations needs both moment strength and shear capacity. The tie requirement is axial and the other forces can be taken in the foundations alone.
