Has anyone come across a reference with a detailed procedure for design of fillet weld groups.
With weld stresses considered at several points.

Are we talking elastic or instantaneous center of rotation? If you want elastic, Blodgett is fantastic. ICR - no, I haven't. But I haven't looked all that hard, either - elastic is easy and conservative and I rarely find myself in a position to need much more accuracy than it provides.

@desertfox,

Unless I'm mistaken, the reference you provided does not consider the method of instantaneous centres. Location of the instantaneous centre, if I am remembering correctly, is a trial and error procedure. I never really became familiar with it and instead, used the more conservative elastic method (using polar moment of inertia of weld).

I've only use instantaneous centres for design of A325 bolts... not ever for welds.

Why not for welds?

Hi BAretired

Yes that link doesn’t use the instantaneous centre method which relies on the geometry of the component parts see this link below and scroll down to the ultimate strength method.

Just not comfortable with using IC method... like a little more strength for connections (but bolts are OK ?).

Excellent link, fox...

Thanks for the input.
phamENG, did you have the title for the Blodgett reference.

Design of Welded Structures. His Design of Weldments would probably have it, too, but I don't have a copy of that one.

Thanks for advising.

Hi dik

Thanks for acknowledging 👍😁

Partially for your recognition and mostly to let others know... again thanks. Also use BPSs for that purpose.
