Hello guys and gals,

Does anyone know of resources to aid in the design of engine thermostat housings? Specifically looking for guidance on how to diemension and tolerance the space where the thermostat will seat inside of the housing. I'm concernd about the performance of the C-shaped o-ring that surrounds the actual thermostat piece, i.e I don't want to make the seat too loose or too tight for the thermostat to sit in.

Thanks in advanced.

SAE J634 is titled "Water Thermostat Pockets". I don't have a copy but it might have what you are looking for.
