We are fabricating a hydraulic cylinder for crane containing oil at pressure of 3500 psi at max. operating temperature of 90 deg. Celcius.

Maximum operating lifting capacity of crane is 5 tons and design lifting cacity of 7.5 tons. Material for hydraulic cylinder is AISI 4140.

Please guide me on which design code is reffered for designing of above cylinder i.e. ASME Sec VIII division 1 or 2, or any other code.

A hydraulic cylinder is not a pressure vessel, and vessel codes would not be applicable to it.

I would think the simplest and best approach to the problem would be to call a manufacturer of hydraulic cylinders and find out what is available. I can't imagine that it's very worthwhile to design and build your own hydraulic cylinders from scratch.

This is an old discussion, check previous dialog.
