I have to design a flange for 50 Bar pressure air release valve. The flange is bolted to the top of the valve body flange. As water level increases a plug seals upward on the chamfered edge of the central hole and then the pressure increases to 50 bar. Is it correct to design using the attached formulae drawn next to the valve. Taken from Roark & Young 5 th edition. First calc stress & deflection due to plug load only then calc stress & deflection due to pressure on flange only.
