Dear all,

From the site steam balance, the best design of a new steam turbine generator rated at 65 MW with inlet steam at 625 psia and extraction at 375 psia and induction induction at 75 psia and condensing stage.

My question is: is this new steam turbine generator can be designed easily or not, what would be the added cost and complexity of the control for this configuration compared to an induction with no extraction.

regards,
Mana

if they are controlled pressures you have the added expense of the hardware i.e. the valve gear components, operating cylinders, relays, etc that go with each extraction/induction. Then there is the additional engineering involved in a customer solution. There are control systems out there that are able to control DAXC TG sets handily, so that is not a problem. The cost will be the additional hardware and engineering.

There are only a handful of manufactures capable of designing and building that type of turbine.

from the steam conditions I assume this is in some sort of paper mill?

I suggest that you survey the extensive list of used controlled steam turbines available worldwide.

Pay for a consultant for a solid final recommendation ... before purchase !!!

Like older mechanical engineers, many steam turbines 50-60+ years old can still be very useful ....

Extraction steam ports can operate at a variety of conditions.

You should have a firm idea of the maximum expected massflow into/out of each port .... There is a minimum steam flow that must go all the way through the machine to maintain stable operations
