Design for impact 1

I am designing for some plastic parts to be used as enclosures. One of the requirements for the final assembly is that the enclosures should withstand 0.5J impact energy.
How do I consider this impact force for designing the plastics?
Is taking 4 times the tensile strength OK?

There was a similar post to this a few weeks back on this same group posting. Go back a few pages, and look for "Impact force" in the title. Though it was not identical to your question, it is certainly relevant, and there was a person who had a good discussion on the limitations of designing for an energy value.

I'm not sure from where you get your idea of 4 times the tensile strength of the material. If I were designing this I would probably approach whoever made this requirement and get a better understanding of their intent.
