Hi,

I have been using 2006 without too many problems so I would like to get rid of the old 2005 install. If I use windows remove program option will I lose any valuable information? Do I need to copy anything to the solidworks 2006 folder?

Check all the file location in SW06 to make sure none of them at pointing to SW05 install. If so, then change them point to the SW06 location. Anything that you customized in SW05 and don't have in SWo6, then you need to move it to the SW06 location or to a server and change the file locations to that location.

Otherwise it will not hurt you to remove SW05 while running SW 06.

You can probably use the Copy Setting Wizard to apply settings to the new sw version. I've never tried it on a diffeent sw version but I think it might work.

If you install SW06 while SW05 is installed, then SW06 already copies those (reg) settings to SW06... no need to do the Copy settings wizard.

What if you do changes to SW05 settings after the installation of 2006? Those changes will be copied by themselves as well?

No only on the installation, because it copies the Reg settings from SW05 to SW06. There is no way that can be done automatically.

There is a way to do it manually though:

1) Run Copy setting wizard
2) Make the file - "sw05 settings.sldreg"
3) Rename the file to - "sw05 settings.reg"
4) Open the file up with Notepad
5) Make a global change from "SolidWorks 2005" to "SolidWorks 2006" - doing Edit\Replace
6) Save the file
7) Double click and run the file.
8) That will replace SW06 reg settings
