Defining tasks

Hi all

This question might be too simple (hopefully) as I am a novice MS Project user:

I have a task for which I know the amount of work needed, lets say 10 mandays. This will be completed by lets say three resources, A, B and C. The duration of the task can naturally sometimes be just a couple of days and sometimes it can be a long period during which the resources will complete the task. I also know the deadline for this and other tasks that must finish before this one can be started. The resources might be needed for other tasks during this task as well.

Now, can I have MS Project to solve the equation, i.e. when the the resources should be reserved for this task? I have only found the approach where I know the duration of the task as calendar time but this doesn't suit my case.

For sure someone must have faced the same problem before...

Normally, this is done by determining the %loading of each individual resource, e.g., A[.5], B[.01], C[.05].

The amount of work is separately entered and distinct from the duration.

In general, the loading is limited to 1/100ths, so there are limitations in getting precise work amounts and it might be better to have 3 separate tasks under a roll-up.
