Dear Ansys users,
I would like to know about seismic analysis ,I would appreciate, if anybody has done any seismic analysis and can spare the information. I have basically query as to how you can apply ground acceleration or velocity given as time history load to base nodes. And part two how do you constrain the base nodes.

Hello, br33zala!

First you will need some accelerograms... (on all three rectangular coordinate directions)
Secondary you will put the accelerations by using the same procedure like for gravity (it means by ACCEL command...).

The model will be constrained in the way that real is (you could use elastic foundation or not).

A problem is that: are all this acceleration (on x, y and z directions) in-phase or out-of-phase ?! Do not judge that as neglectable because it is of great importance!

I made seismic analysis but I use spectrum analysis. I've try to perform time-history but has no prove at all (because every earthquake is different as behaviour and the response of structure also).

Anyway if this is helpful I could say you how I have done this:

1) I use a different program to get an accelerogram from a spectrum
2) I apply the accelerograms by ACCEL commands

Finally, all was wasted time and no relevant results.

After that I performed Spectrum Analysis and everybody was happy....

Best regards,
Juzz
