I am mechanical engineer. I am a newbe to this forum. I don't know squat about attaching things to dirt. I am laying a cable across a creek bed and hanging some loads on the cable. My cable tension with 5 times safety factor is 9125#. My design life is 20 yrs. The dirt is Tulsa, OK gumbo clay in Oklahoma jungle/cow pasture with lots of moisture in the spring wet season. A shale layer is about 10ft below grade. What is a cheap/quick method of building a deadman/anchor to hold this cable that won't shift/creep much with time? Where can I find info on soil design properties and examples of foundations/deadmen/anchors/etc that I can use for this application? Link's to the info would be very helpful. I have initially thought about drilling with a post hole digger, a 12in dia hole about 6ft deep and cementing 6in steel pipe into the hole and attaching to this. I figured on using 3 of these on each end. Would this work? I can't get a warm fuzzy feeling that this won't shift/creep over time. Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks a lot.
