De-Q ring on Air Cored Reactors

What function does a de-Q ring perform on an air cored reactor? How does it work??

The de-Q ring adds additional losses (damping) to the reactor in a similar way to a parallell connected resistor. It is typically used in HV filter applications to add damping to the filter.
