Help required on Solid Edge data import.
I would need to import coordinates (ideally) from Excel into Solid Edge. Currently the only way is to key in values manually. Fine if you have a few tens to input (gets REALLLLLY tedious after about 50).
After talking to our VAR,Tech support I was told to post a query on the forum to see if a VBA has been posted already.
If not, is anyone out there able to provide some help. I'm not asking for a complete script (would be perfect) and would appreciate any help. Note that I'm not very proficient in praogramming (except AutoLISP from ACAD times).

Look forward to receiving feedback.

Spaceman1209,

I might know someone who already has written a macro for this. I'm not sure about the price.

I can't seem to find a way to PM you. Please go to and leave a message there. (on the left of this site, under 'powered by...' you can find an e-mail adress)

I'm totally SE ignorant, stumbled on this scrounging for goodies...

IF you can import points as IGES type 106 form 2 (copious data or 'cloud of points') it is relatively easy to create such a file from scratch with a text editor or spreadsheet. The attachment is a simple example. If it looks like it might be useful I can point you to documentation and walk you thru it. In addition to the point list and line numbers the point count and line counts will have to be correct, model units defined, etc.

(Creating a file for type 116 point entities could also be done but would require a lot more work, probably a custom written scripting language routine to be practical.)

Sure it's true. I saw it on the internet.

Have a look at PointCloud from Sycode.

It looks as though it saves in Rhino format, so you may also need to get the Rhino to Solid Edge converter.

There is a 10 use/10 day trial available at the web site.
