My application consists of an actuator where the moving element travels a relatively small distance of less then 0,3 mm.
The needing is to dampen the shock oscillation when the moving elements touches the stopper.
Actually I need some device which absorbs the kinetic energy.
I cannot implement any traditional oil or hydraulic damping systems because of small size.
I was therefore after some form of coating which has very good wear resistance, and yet good damping effect.
Can you suggest any?
Thank you.

Polyurethane coatings can be formulated to have a wide variety of properties. There are also thermoplastic EAA coatings that are specifically formulated to be applied in the range of several hundred micrometers thick, that have very good damping. They are used for coating automotive suspension springs to prevent damgage from stone impacts, etc. One such product was developed by Morton Powder (the EAA resin ENVELON 5000 was developed by Dow Chemical). I am not sure if Morton (now Rohm & Haas) still offers this product.
