Hello, I don't use the melt indexers in out lab, but I work closely with the people that do. I'm trying to correct some information in our database, and I want to be sure I'm understanding things correctly.
Regarding section 5.4.3, "The combined weight of piston and load shall be within a tolerance of ±0.5 % of the selected load."
The information in our database implies that the tolerance of the piston weight must be within ±0.5%. That doesn't seem right. The ASTM standard doesn't seem to make any requirements for piston weight, just a requirement for the combination of piston and weight. Is that right?
It sounds like you could theoretically choose any weight, and any piston so long as the piston does not add more than 0.5% to it.
