Cut off nib 1

We have a part turned on a Wickman 6 Spindle, which has a .10" dia by about .19"lg nib left on after the part is cut off. The tooling has the proper geometry but the weight of the part breaks the remaining material just before complete cut off. I am looking for a semi automated method to remove the nib.
Any suggestions?

Instead of making the final cut with a tool whose edge is parallel the axis, can you make the final cut with an angled tool such that it is always thinnest and therefore breaks at the surface?

I am told the cutting edge of the cut off tool is angled towards the part. But looking at the parts you wouldn't know it. I am going to ask the supervisor to check that the tool is on center.
The parts are being machined at our plant in VA, and I'm in PA, kind of tough to trouble shoot!
