Good morning, I just installed 09, Lord Help Me, I tried to just reorder the drop down tool buttons, like Fillet/Chamfer off of Features so the it is just the reverse and chamfer is at the top. Customize menus still does not move chamfer to the top and so I was wondering if there is a way to build a customized drop down tool button, maybe with Begin a Group or something that I am missing? Help has not been much help with this. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the response, but I don't understand what you mean by 's' shortcut. this is my first attempt at customizing the toolbar to any real degree.

What version were you using before SW09?

Assuming you were on SW08, just hit the S key when a file is open. The options shown are specific and individually customisable to the type of document which is active.

I try that and I must be doing something wrong. Oh in 09, if you hit the s key you now get a pop up menu, so maybe that has changed. Thanks again.

If it was SW08, read the User Interface section of the SW2008 What's New PDF file.

Also do a search for shortcut bars in the SW09 Help files.

Nope, same as '08. Looks like you missed a whole year of this functionality!

With every new release you should carefully skim through the entire "What's new" PDF. Otherwise you'll be missing out.

Well, I have read help and I have already done or tried and so I guess that what I want is not a doable thing and I guess I will have to submit another enhancement request and have it sit there with all of the others that I have files. I still say there should be a way to modify the tool-button drop down menus. Oh well, I give up, maybe it will get fixed in10 or 11. thanks for the help.

Here's a post on this subject from the SW Customer Portal. It explains how the flyout toolbars are supposed to work, and it also states that they don't really work that way. I was under the impression this might change for 2009.

Q4K, I've probably said this about a brazillion times here and on other forums, but what's once more, eh? The UI starting with '08 gives you the opportunity to speed up your modeling with the context pop-ups and the shortcut key. Those two enhancements alone are worth the money. They give you the ability to completely the malfunctioning toolbars altogether. It frees up real estate on your screen, makes you faster, and gives you more time to check you Facebook account. There is definitely room for improvement, but I doubt SW will ever catch up with what some of us consider actually useful enhancements.

So I encourage you to take the plunge and ditch the annoying toolbars. At least try it for a little while. All of the cool kids are doing it.

Dan

A combination of the S key shortcut and other keyboard shorcuts will save untold amounts of time.

However, if you want to stick with the CM toolbars, you can still customise them to suit. Regarding the Fillet vs Chamfer problem, just eliminate the Fillet dropdown and replace it with the individual Fillet and Chamfer icons.

Thanks for that nice little article, JMarv. After reading it I think I am starting to understand what is going on. I have already been to enhancements and submitted a request to allow pop-up and fly out menus to be able to be modified so most commonly used items can be put at the top of the menu. The don't need to be smart, just able to be modified. Hope if enough people greet this could become a change, for a change. thanks one and all.

CBL, that is what I finally did do, but I figured that the fillet, in a fly out would save me the space. It is not used that often, but it is used. Hope that makes sense.
