Curb horizontal reinforcement

Does anyone have a recommended horizontal reinf for curbs, exposed exterior conditions, and not exposed (i.e. within the conditioned building space)? I ask in reference to a typical detail for curbs that I am developing.

Check the minimum steel requirements under the agency, or design code you are working for/with.
 
We are not working for any agency. This is for a typical detail I am trying to develop for miscellaneous curbs for building projects. I do not know any agency that might have that. I was hoping that someone on this forum would have an answer. Is Kootk or BAretired or Hokie66 out there? One of you usually have answers to my questions.
 
Is this a curb as in adjacent to a sidewalk/public road......or are we talking a containment area in a industrial setting.....or something else?
 
I usually go 0.06% 0.6% steel horizontal with the usual two bars near the construction joint. I believe that crack control is the thing for most of these situations where're you're casting new concrete that will shrink against existing concrete that won't. 0.06% is a good number for that as Hokie66 himself has taught us in the past. Maybe toss in control joints too but, given the level of restraint at the slab to curb interface, I question their effectiveness.
 
Scrap my comment if we're really speaking of an extruded, roadway curb kind of thing.
 
That would be 0.6%, but is usually my number for water retaining structures. Curbs/kerbs are often cast without reinforcement, with joints formed or cut at about 3 metre centres, and they still crack.
 
As mentioned by hokie66 above, curb can be cast without reinforcing steel, but the designer usually provide temperature and shrinkage steel in an effort to prevent wide cracks (as opposed to hair-crack) to occur, and/or the occurring of too many unevenly spaced cracks that is considered ugly to view. Also, the reinforced concrete curb performs better consider the nature of subgrade unevenness. In the US, use the ACI T&S reinforcing requirement as minimum steel for non-structural critical elements is the norm.
