I am looking for some tried and true method of grading estetically pleasing cul de sac bulbs w/ bones (islands. These will often need to be on hills whree the road cl grade can be 5-8%. Iss there any boiler plate method out there?

Do your subdivision regulations allow you to grade cul-de-sacs at greater than 5%? Our subdivision regulations did not allow anything greater than 5% slope except for temporary turn-arounds.

We had a method for grading cul-de-sacs using TerraModel; it involved calculating your gradient along the curved face-of-curb line, rather than along the centerline. This was particularly useful in cul-de-sacs whose centerlines were 90 degrees to the road centerline.
