Cu/CuSO4 for standard half-cell - Recommended?

Re corrosion half-cell potential measurements for reinforced concrete structures. I have read that copper/copper sulphate cells are NOT recommended because of maintenance needs, risk of contamination to the cell, leakage in various orientations etc.

Does any one have any personal experience with such half-cells to confirm/reject such claims.

Any assistance would be appreciated.
