There are two category of pressure testing according to CSA Z662.
Operating pressure greater than 700 KPa and operating pressure less than or equal 700 KPa.
For operating pressure greater than 700 KPa an additional mandatory test called strength testing is required along with hydro testing. The strength testing pressure is provided in table 8.1 of CSA Z662. For example, class 1 pipeline strength test pressure is 125% of MOP or 1.25 of MOP. The hold time is 1 hour. After the strength testing, an optional hydrotesting is required. The hydro test is required only if any of the component of piping is not visible for the inspector to detect leak for example under insulation etc. The hydrotesting pressure is provided in table 8.1 and is 110% of MOP for class 1 LVP pipe. The hold time is 4 hr for liquid testing medium and 24 hours for gas testing medium leak test/ hydro test.
