Ok, in a .ipt file, you can perform a cross-section analysis which will give you the 2D section properties of your cross-section. I'm interested in area at the moment but polar moment, moment of inertia, etc. are all there as well.

Is there a way to do this to a .iam assembly? I have two parts and I want to find their overlapping area and need a way to calculate this. It's not a perfect fit so I can't just subtract the results of the two part files.

The only thing I can find in assembly mode is the "half-section" view, but this won't calculate section properties.

Thanks in advance.

That tool is indeed close, but I don't need a volumetric reading, just a 2D projection of the overlapping areas. I ended up transferring to a different CAD package which did what I needed.

Thanks!
