Formulas and Charts for Impedances of Surface and Embedded Foundations by Gazetas, as well as ASCE 136 Concrete Foundations for Turbine Generators, make reference to a "cross-coupling" impedance caused by lateral stiffness of the embedded side wall of the foundation also providing some resistance to rocking. For lateral translation, I get units of kip/ft, and for rotational translation, I get kip-ft/rad, but for this impedance I get kip/rad and it isn't clear how to apply this. Is anyone familiar with this? Past references I've used have ignored this, and I likely will as well due to the geometry of the foundation, but I would like to justify this by better understanding the impedance.
