Critical Section for Concrete Beam Flexure Design 4

Hi, Dear All,

For concrete beam shear design, the critical section can be taken at the section which is d away from the support/column face. I am able to find this in the ACI code.

For the flexure design, more specifically for the negative moment, can we design at the face of the support or column? Is there a correponding code artical talking about the critical flexure design sections? Please advise. Thank you all so much for the help.

No kidding. For the pier I posted, there were over 35,000 combinations of live loading girder reaction to consider, most of them involving the combined loading of 3 trucks in various transverse positions across the bridge. Theoretically, I could've had up to 7 trucks to consider, but 3 was as far as I was willing to go (or needed to go, as it turns out).

Yeah, that's the reason I quit my first job (DOT consultant) after 6 months, pissed my boss there, who recruited me with "high" hopes :)!!
 
Once I got the macro set up with the right limits in Excel, it's easy-peasy to run all those combinations.
