Hello,
New Poster but not new to MCAD Central

Please help with slow network. Here's the setup

No PDM and No ERP that interfaces with Creo (6 users)

Creo 2.0 m080 on HP z420 workstation 8gb ram, 64 bit Win7 Enterprise,
Intel Xeon E5-1620 @3.60GHZ, Nvidia Quadro 2000 with Certified PTC Driver.
If we load a 100 part assembly on local machine (files, search.pro, config.pro)
Creo is very fast (screaming)

If we point to our network (files, search.pro, config.pro) it takes 3-5
minutes to launch Creo and another 15-20 minutes to load same 100 part assembly.
Here is the network info:

Connection Type: 15Mb -> 10MB VPN from Austin to Davenport over Fiber
using MikroTik routers and HP switches. Zen Virtual File Server on some
HP Proliant server but I don't know server specs at all. Also, there
is a SAN here in Davenport, also HP.

Please note: I'm a designer/drafter type who has used Pro/Creo
since 1995 and trying to find information for our IT people so as
to ease our pain and suffering. Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't recommend operating across the network that way as it can become horribly frustrating. I would recommend at a minimum having all your config.pro, config.sup, search.pro, bend tables local. Every part that loads needs to access these files. Even on a local network this can be horribly slow and cause a lot of issues.

You may also have virus software scanning each file as it's loaded as well which can cause some overhead.

I can say that this type of situation is where a PDM system like Windchill really makes life easier.
