Hello All.

Who can tell. What are the two material properties that generally control allowable stresses, below the creep temperature? I think are the tensile strengh and yield strenght, but I am not sure.
 
In the context of allowable stresses for metals for construction to the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, the bases are found in ASME Section II, Part D, Appendices 1, 2, 6, and 10. The limits are described there, which include design margins against ultimate, yield, and various creep margins.

You answer the question yourself. There is no other alternative for metals than the tensile test.
For example, it could not be the charpy test, nor the bend test.

High strength bolting ( eg .B-7) will "relax" at temperatures below creep , like 750 F.
 
Sounds a lot like a test or homework question to me...

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand
 
LOOK AT ASME SECTION II PART D, 1-100. Below the creep range there are 4 criteria:

The lowest stress of the following is to be used (Post 1998 Code):

Tensile at room temp / 3.5
2/3 yield at room temp
Tensile at temperature / 3.5
2/3 yield at temperature
