Sorry for this question which is certainly very basic for most of you, but I am novice at ProE and I have to train by myself...
So here is my question, what should I do to create and assign materials to parts in proE ?
The second question would be where could I find the mass and moment of inertia of each parts but I think it is in the menu Analysis->Model->Mass properties and "display info"..
Step by step description would be appreciated considering I am a novice..

If you are creating the materials from scracth then:

1. Gather data on the materials you will be using - the absolute minimum is:
Density ; Poissons ratio ; Youngs Modulus ; Thermal Conductivity

2. got to Edit -> Setup -> Material

3. File -> New

4. Name the material & put the data into the file (you can also add a colour to the material if you want)

5. Save to model

6. Decide where you want to store all the material files (eg {network drive}\Wildfire\materials)

7. highlight the created material and use File -> save a copy to save into the directory chosen

8. repeat steps 2 to 7 to create all the materials

9. right-click on the material you want the part to be & Assign the material to the part

10. in the config.pro file (Tools -> Options) add:
pro_material_dir {network drive}\Wildfire\materials

(11. to add the created materials to another part, all you need to do is repeat step 2 and right-click on the material in the right-hand pane & Assign the material)

The mass & moment of inertia are where you think they are.

Hello Thomas...

You need to assign the material mass before Pro E will give reliable inertia data.

whilst in the part go to...

Edit>
Setup>
Material> To set up material for part.
Mass Props> To assign a mass to the part.
Units> To give the correct metric/imperial output.

Pro E gives mass in tonnes per cubic mm.

When you assign a material to a component, the density will change but the appearance will not.

The appearance can be changed by clicking on View> then Colour and Appearance>. Then by selecting and modifying the colours.

Adrian
