Up until NX4 there was a toggle in "Analysis > Distance" to "Create minimum line". It was a handy way of creating a vector. Now it appears as though that function is no longer available. Does anyone know: 1) if indeed that function no longer exists, or 2) how to create a vector for a non-planar surface?

Thanks

You can create a point, project the point onto the surface, then create a line using Basic Curves from the point and perpendicular to the surface. After selecting the point for the start point of the line, change the Point Subfunction dropdown to Face, then click on the surface to make the line perpendicular and drag it the direction you need.

There's probably more than one way to accomplish this in NX, but the above is probably the easiest.

Hope this helps.

tooldeziner,

The option to creat a minimum line using analysis - distance is still there in NX4. First you need to be in modeling and then activate the option on the pulldown dialog - when the analysis distance tool bar appears there are two options Display Annotation or Create minimum line. Select Analysis Distance - Pick the two points/edges whatever and then click create minimum line. The interaction has changed but it still works in modleing. I have an IR on this for CAM - I does not work when the tool path verification is active.

I have found that if you don't want more than one "minimum line" you have to hit escape after the second pick. Otherwise you can end up with several.

ewh,
No, you just have to switch off "Create line" the same way you switch it on. Just hit again "Create line" and you're ready to measure distance without leaving a trace. [smile]
