One of our millwrights recently rebuilt a load brake on a 10 ton hoist at our plant. The new discs called out were non-asbestos. Because of this the oil in the load brake was changed from 150 wt to 100 wt. Since this was rebuilt occassionly a rumbling noise could be heard from the load brake.
Has anybody had this problem?
If so what did you do to fix it?
Also, I've been looking on the web for a good site showing the cutaway view of a load brake to explain, but can't find one. Does anyone know of a good site showing pictures?

Thanks

I would strongly advise you to get an approved repair from the manufacturer of the lifting device or better yet have an approved service center make the repair. The are some very specific rules and regulations concerning the repair and especially any alteration of any lifting device. They are listed under OSHA and ANSI and are strictly enforced, especially if anything goes wrong.

I don't have an ANSI catalogue but someone should post the specific regulation if you post what type lifting device you have.

I appreciate your e-mail. Mind you we are not going off half-cocked to repair this situation. We take our cranes and safety very serious at our plant. We talked to a guy at Crane America Services and he helped us out.
