cracks and uneven surface in extruded tubes

When we extrude ceramic tubes on hydraulic extruder longitudinal cracks occur where as when tubes are extruded on pugmill uneven surface appears. What possible reasons could be there and how to overcome these problems?
Suggestions are solicited.
