Cracked reinf concrete centroid

Could someone explain why it's okay and common to assume that the centroid of the cracked concrete will be located in the flange rather than the web of a beam x-section?

Recommended for you

It should never be assumed to be in the flange. It should be calculated and the design based on the actual depth.
