Does anyone have comparative data for corrosion resistance of 301 vs. 304 stainless steel? Our use is medical. Parts are exposed to steam sterilization at 132 C. The 304 we are using now is fine for this application but we need the strength we get with 301 1/2-hard.

While 301 has can have slightly less Cr, its corrosion resistance is considered to be approx. equal to 302 and 304, even when cold worked. Your steam is apparently free/very low in halogens, and plain steam shouldn't hurt 301.

Can you try a sample?

You should take steps to assure that this material is very low C and free from sensitization. If this were to happen in cold worked material then stress cracking could happen very easily.
