Hi,

I have number of tanks where electric heaters are required to heat salts.

Medium is 50/50 mix of Sodium Nitrite (NaNO2) & Potassium Nitrite (KNO3), operating @ +260C.

Is this mix severly corrosive?

Are SS316 sheath elements & Flange OK for this application.

Thanks
Fasi Rahman

Some guides show the 316 as boarder line in the KNO3. My guess is that this will be limited by trace impurities, the smallest amount of Cl or Fl and you will need a much better alloy.

Still trying to help you stop corrosion.

Thanks Ed.

Someone told me that Nickle Sheath Elements & Flange(?) are corrosion resistant with above mix. Is that right?
