What is cordit? Ny brother is writing the historie of Norwegians post uniform. From 1935 the CAP visir EAs supplied in cordit (replaced treated leather). We suppose this to be a tradename for a more precise chemical composition name.

At least, in English, you do not have a valid spelling, since the closest thing is cordite, which is a form of gunpowder.

Are you sure it's not corduroy?

And you do realize this is a Chemical Engineering forum, not exactly the place I would be looking to find a fabric.

We have come a bit further. The spelling is corrected to Cornit (e?).

This is probably a tradename for an early plastic material, possibly celluloid or similar. The material is used for the front shade/visor of the cap. It is not any form of textile, or fiber cover. The name could stem from Europe, possibly UK or Germany, or US, or anywhere else.

You are quite correct! The original was leather, then replaced by the more weather resistent 'cornit' - and hence the mystery starts...!
