I have a project folder that contains folders of components. I'd like to copy all of these files, and hopefully retain folder structure, to a Shared File location. Anyone know if this is easily done? I know how to do it the hard way.

TIA

I know that will copy files within the vault, but will it copy them to a shared location outside the vault?

no you would have to open the files from the vault and then you can do either a File\Find references\Copy files - or if you copy them to your working directory you can use the SW explorer to copy the files to a new location.

I don't think you can do what you are asking for at least with PDMWOrks2006.

There is one method that comes to mind but I don't think it will be practical and it still has a few manual steps. If you select "Keep extra copy of latest files" PDMworks will create a copy of the latest version of a givin file in the project folder. I don't remember if the file is kept in the root of the project it belongs to or if PDMWorks creates a subproject called "Latest". At this point you can either manually copy those projects over to the shared drive or you can have IT set up a secure and fancy way for others to access the "Latest files" in the vault directory.

The other method which you may already have in mind is to create the folders in the shared drive and hightlight copy and paste from the PDMWorks vault view to the specific folders.

How many folders/projects are we talking about?

Do want to copy all the files in the give projects or just selective ones?

You mention retaining folder structure did you also mean that you wanted to retain references(In other words the location of the all the children for a given assembly)?

Thank you. I didn't think there would be any easy way.

It's quite a number of files and folders. Not trying to maintain references, but the folder structure makes it easier to find the specific files we're looking for.
