Copy Assembly with Drawing

I want to copy a drawing and assembly to a new location. In 2007, I could
-open the drawing
-click Save As
-change the location for the drawing file
-click References
-change the path for the assembly (and any other parts I want)
-click OK or Save (I don't remember now)
-click Save in the main Save As window

In 2009, I get to the References, and I can change the path for the assembly, but I only get a Save All button. Some of the assembly components are read only, so it does not go through.

As a workaround, I know I can
-Open the drawing
-click Save As
-change the location
-check the Save as copy box
-click Save
-close the drawing
-open it in the new location
-open the assembly
-Save As the assembly to the new location
-go back and save the drawing

but it takes longer, and I always forget to close the drawing and reopen the copy. Also, if I want to copy other components to the new location, I have to save them all individually, and if other assemblies are open that use the components, the Save As can mess them up.

Any thoughts on how to proceed? Am I stuck with the awkward workaround? Why did they change the original functionality?

Thanks,

Steve

Well, that works except that I lose the references to all the other components that were in the original location. :}

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I tried Pack and Go from the File menu once I had the drawing open, and it works fine, with the added advantage of not having to open up SW Explorer.

Thanks,

Steve

In SolidWorks 2009 you can specify the different locations for the reference files as well as in SolidWorks 2007.

Alternatively you can use the SolidWorks API. Please refer the "Copy Document and Its Dependencies Example (VB6)" sample in API Help.

Thanks,
