I have to check the design of an engineering who is analysing his structures on Staad Pro. I do not own Staad Pro but I do own Robot Structural Analysis which is supposed to be capable of converting and opening Staad Pro files.

I am opening the files in Robot as Staad Pro files and the conversion is taking place. At the end the conversion I am getting syntax error and Robot shuts down.

I am wondering if anyone has managed to open Staad Pro files in Robot. If anybody knows how to do it could you let me know how?

I have not done this. But, STAAD's input file is fairly open. You should be able to open it in a text editor and edit it. That will at least allow you to run some tests.... You know, eliminate everything but the joints to see if the joints come in okay. Then add in the member definitions to see if that comes in correctly, then the loads, and load combinations, et cetera.

It will be a bit of a pain, for sure. But, it gives you a path forward if you have no other way to resolve the issue.

Of course, your best bet may be to contact Robot's tech support. I know that whenever RISA imports a STAAD file, it creates a log file giving information about what was not imported and such. So, when users get confused, that log file will usually point them (or those of us in tech support) right to the issue.
