converting points to blocks in acad 2010

Hi.

I was searching the net for "converting points to blocks in acad 2010" and found this forum with a thread on the subject. Tested what was suggested there and it did not work.

Here is what I have and need to solve: I have a file with thousands of normal acad points that I want to convert/replace with one block instances for general editing purposes.

Could any one help me on this in a step by step way?

I am working with acad 2010.
